DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS?
WE MAY HAVE THE ANSWERS FOR YOU.

So you decided to buy a puppy.
Here are a few hints what to look for.
  1. Check if the dogs have registration with a Kennel Club.
Ensure that dogs are not only registered, but also have breeding rights.
This is very important in order to obtain CKC registration for your puppy.
Just a note about CKC registrations. Make sure it is the actual
Canadian Kennel Club and not a Continental Kennel Club!

(Moravian Kennel dogs are registered under FCI as well as with Canadian Kennel Club.)

  2. Make sure your contract obtains information regarding the CKC registration
and ask the breeder about the registration (when you can expect it, litter
    registration number etc.)

  3. Breeder should follow the Kennel Club policy regarding breeding.
    (Ages, Litter number if applicable.)
    CKC By-Laws - 28.6 AGE:
"No litter out of dam under six (6) months or over twelve (12) years of age
at the time of mating, or by sire under six (6) months or over twelve (12) years
of age at the time of mating, will be registered unless the application for
registration is accompanied by an affidavit or evidence which shall prove
the facts, set out in the application for registration of a litter, to the
    satisfaction of the Recording Office."

CKC doesn't have any further age or number of litters restrictions.

  4. Make sure your dog will come with a permanent identification at
the time of purchase - either a microchip or a tattoo number.
MK dogs comes with a CKC compatible microchip. If a customer
prefers a tatto we own a CKC tattoo serie as well. We just prefer a microchip
implant as it is more secure.

  5. Ask about health testing of the breeding stock.
For example: Boxers are prone to heart disease. Ask for the heart test
    results.

  6. Each breeder should give buyer some information
as to feeding, worming, vaccination, or other advices.
Moravian Kennel supplies a special sheet personalized to each puppy.
We encourage our customers to keep in touch and if they have any questions,
we are trying to help them out as much as possible.

  7. Make sure your puppy comes with a health record - one vaccination
(or more - depending on puppy's age), de-wormed, and veterinary checked.
Yes, our puppies comes veterinary checked (with vet statement on the Bill of Sale,
our male puppies comes with confirmation that their testicles are fully descended before
leaving our kennel), puppies are vaccinated, and de-wormed.

People can ask why these puppy prices
are higher than those in some newspaper ads?

Our response is:
"Those buyers who respect the quality and excellence are
wonderful customers and become our partners in this hobby
that we love so much. Those that are seeking pets deserve
nothing less than a nice pet quality puppy, healthy
and trusting animal.

Q1: What is the difference between a "cheap puppy"
and a "costly puppy"?

A1:
More Expensive puppy comes from sire and dam from top quality breeding stock which was developed over years and years of selective and knowledgeable breeding. Both meet the requirement of the written CKC standard for the breed in conformation as well as temperament. The breeder is aware of the genetic problems to which the breed is predisposed and the health of the puppies is guaranteed. The breeder is a professional and he has a good reputation to maintain. Breeder's goal is to produce beautiful and sound specimens which anyone would be proud to own.

Bargain Priced puppy came from dam that was purchased from a local pet store, newspaper add or a puppy mill. Mother's can suffer from various health problems and/or malnutrition. Neither owner has ever heard of the AKC/CKC written standard or has seen a written pedigree. The breeder is totally unaware of the genetic problems within the breed. Trips to the Veterinarian are considered too pricey. Puppies are sold with no guarantee!

Q2: What is different in raising and care?

A2:
In a case of more expensive puppy both the mother and pups are fed the high quality diet and assured that mother and pups are under the very best care. The pups are socialized, groomed and exposed to different kinds of stimuli. They are touched and talked to, and cuddled. The breeder spends time with each new owner, educating and answering questions and pups are placed only in homes where they will receive the best of care. Follow-up contacts are made to make sure the pups are adjusting well.

In the case of inexpensive puppies, they were born somewhere in a box. Received only a little care other than what the mother gives. Puppies are not socialized and raised somewhere like in a bathroom or in a garage. To cut costs the puppies are allowed to nurse on the mother as long as possible to keep food bills down. The bitch's health declines rapidly due to poor health and some pups are weak.

Q3:How is it with dog's registration and guarantees?

A3:
(More expensive puppy) Each new owner receives a Bill of sale and health guarantees, vaccination record, thorough puppy care and nutrition information. New puppy owner will receive within a few weeks CKC registration for the puppy. The new owners are encouraged to continue a relationship with the breeder, and to call and ask questions at any time during the dog's life. Profit, if any is made, goes toward future breedings, always aimed towards the betterment of the breed and for kennel expenses and improvements.

(Inexpensive puppy) Puppies are sold as quickly as possible because advertising and vaccines are expensive. The breeder's hope is to make money off the sale of the puppies. If he keeps expenses down, he can buy that new couch he's been wanting. Puppies are sold with no guarantee. They are sold without shots, parasite checks, registration papers, vet examinations, guarantees or information of any kind.
They are sold to anyone who has the cash. If the new owner is lucky he may receive CKC registration application. Although the puppy is of very poor quality, it is sold with full breeding rights. The new owner usually disappears with the pup, never to be seen again. If the market is not good, the breeder takes the leftover pups to the local pet shop/and in some instances the pound or sells them to an Internet broker.

Q6: What kind of care and food do we provide
for our puppies?

A6:
Our dogs and puppies make an important part of our family and all our family members take their part in the raising and care of the puppies. Our puppies are whelped inside our home. Our puppies are risen in friendly environment, puppies are exposed to variety household noises (children toys, vacuum, kitchen equipment etc.). Health and temperament are our top priority, in order to ensure a lifetime of happiness for our puppies and our clients.

DIET:
If the mother has enough milk, we encourage the feeding up to week three. Mother is fed rich high quality food (preferably wide variety of meat, oatmeal, rice, vegetables, and fruit) and also supplied with extra vitamins. Since week three, puppies are starting to drink goat milk although mother still feeds them several times a day. Week 4-5: Puppies are slowly transferred to homo milk and home made cooked meal. Either food or water is enriched with extra liquid vitamins made especially for the puppies. Based on closed observation we also provide hand feeding of some or all puppies to support their proper growth. Week 5-6: Puppies are transferred to less fat milk 1%. To their menu is added porridge, oatmeal, cooked rice mixed with variety of cooked (lean) meat (beef, turkey, chicken, and pork). The menu is also variegated with fresh fruit and cooked or raw vegetable. Puppies are also trying to drink fresh water. Based on the development we add dry kibbles to their menu. Everytime when a new item is added to the puppy's diet we closely observe any digestive problems especially with treats, which may be caused sometimes by artificial colourings or individual allergies.

At the time of final purchase, the buyer is supplied with all information regarding the puppy's diet and care.

IN THE YEAR 2007 - WE HAVE CHANGED OUR DOG'S DIET AND TRANSFERRED THEM TO
RAW DIET

Why raw diet?

Dogs do not have the digestive system to cope with grains. Grains are one of the biggest sources of allergies in dogs. Grains make up the majority of dog food company food sources. Many people find when they switch to an all natural diet, the allergies their dogs had disappear. A raw diet provides a range of benefits that commercial dog diets can never hope to even closely match.
Benefits are following:
  • No doggy odour
  • Naturally cleans teeth
  • No gum diseases
  • The time it takes for a dog to chew a raw meaty bones give their stomach adequate time to get the food properly digested
  • Less stool - the stool is firm, and turns chalky after a couple of days
  • Decreased or non-existant vet bills (your dogs are healthier!)
  • Bitches managed their pregnancies better
  • Puppies develop at a more appropriate rate
  • Better survival figures in puppies as well as better development
  • Decreasing allergies in dogs that have been previously on commercial foods
  • Reduced occurence of arthritis in dogs
  • Weight control
  • Prolonged life of your dog
Also the ripping and chewing involved in eating raw meaty bones develops the jaw, neck, and shoulder muscles of the dog. Commercial dog foods will never assist in this important muscle development.
Dogs should have access to raw meaty bones. These clean their teeth, work and develop their neck and jaw muscles, and the chewing action prepares their stomach for the incoming food mass. Chewing bones also slows down the eating process considerably, making it far harder for a dog to over eat.
Commercial dog food has cereals as their main ingrediences. And it is these very cereals that cause a range of problems such as allergies. Commercial foods contain preservatives, colors, salt, dangerous BHA etc. They have additives to make the food taste better so that the dogs will overeat as well as the majority of commercial dog foods have far too much carbohydrates in them. High levels of carbohydrates are linked to over-eating, diabetes, weight gain, and numerous other problems. Dogs should eat a diet with only a small amount of carbs.

The most scary of all is that your family vet will most probably recommend a commercial brand of dog food because of financial inducements and a lack of independent learning.
there is no substitute for a raw diet. What is a raw diet consist of?

Variety of raw meats - organs (a large source of vitamins), pork, beef, rabbit, chicken, turkey, lamb, goose, duck wild meat, fish, eggs, raw meaty bones.
Where possible you want to avoid using items that have been raised inappropriately. For example, avoid beef that was raised in feedlots. Preferably the food should be as organic and natural as possible.
What is Feeding Raw all about?
Even the "modern day dog" has a digestive tract exactly the same as a wolf. By feeding your dog RAW, you are giving your dog the same source of food as wild animals are getting (which of course excludes commercial dog foods).

Q7: Do boxer puppies come with cropped ears?

A7:
